Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of Brockley Primary School’s Parent Forum. Since September 2015, Parents have had a strategic voice in our School Development Plan and Parents Forum discussions will be tailored to discussing the issues identified.
Establishing regular, open communication and consultation with parents is vitally important to us and we hope that setting up a Parent Forum will help to achieve improved outcomes for all our children. The forum or council is open to all parents and carers whose children attend Brockley Primary School
At the first meeting to be held in September those parents in attendance will elect a Chair and Vice Chair. We will also discuss dates and times of the meetings – they are usually held at the start of each term and an agenda is published and minutes taken.
Invitation to Parent Voice Meeting, Friday 23rd September 2016 9:00am
We are writing to warmly invite you to the first Parent Forum meeting of 2016, which will take place at Brockley Primary School on the morning of Friday 23rd September.
Purpose of the Parent Voice
The Parent Forum was set up last year to give parents and carers a relaxed and informal place to meet with staff from Brockley Primary School to share their views on how things are going at the school and how we can improve. Last year the group was chaired by Steph Wright and vice chaired by Becky Roe. Both parents did a fantastic job of representing parents and carers, resulting in improved dialogue and a change to some of the school’s routines. However, in accordance with the group’s constitution Steph and Becky must now step down and therefore we are looking to elect a new chair and vice chair to take up the roles for this academic year.
What is a Parent Council or Parent Forum?
A Parent Council or Forum is a body which:
- Enables parents to meet, share ideas and feed back to the school
- Gives parents a voice and enables them to contribute to school decision making
- Helps develop a partnership between parents and school
- Consults parents and advises the school leadership and/or governing body of parents’ views.
Thank you to those parents who have already made an expression of interest in leading the council/forum. I have enclosed for you an extra form requesting your interest in applying for the position of Chair or Vice Chair and information from the DfE about Parent Council’s in other schools and how they work within the school community.
Thank you for your continuing support.
