Weather Update 20.06.25

The weather forecast for Friday, 20th June in Derbyshire indicates high temperatures reaching up to 29°C (84°F) with sunny to partly sunny conditions and no expected rainfall

In light of this, we are implementing several measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children during the school day.

Following the latest guidance from the UK Health Security Agency, NHS, and the Department for Education, we kindly ask for your support.

What We’re Doing at School

Outdoor activities will be limited, especially during peak sun hours (11am–3pm).

PE and vigorous physical activities including Daily Mile will be postponed or adapted to cooler indoor environments.

Shaded areas will be used for any necessary outdoor time.

Classrooms will be kept cool with open windows/doors and blinds drawn where appropriate.

Staff will monitor children closely for signs of heat stress, exhaustion, or dehydration.

Encouraging children to keep hydrated and top up their water bottles as necessary using the water fountain.

What You Can Do to Help

Please ensure your child comes to school with:

A refillable water bottle (we will encourage regular drinking throughout the day).

A wide-brimmed sun hat or cap.

Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing (uniform rules will be relaxed).

High-factor sunscreen (SPF 50+) applied before school. If you wish your child to reapply during the day, please send a clearly labelled bottle.

 Signs to Watch For

We are trained to look out for symptoms of heat-related illness, including:

Tiredness, dizziness, headache, or nausea

Excessive sweating or pale, clammy skin

Unusual irritability or discomfort

If any child shows signs of heat exhaustion, they will be moved to a cool area, given water, and cooled down with damp cloths or fans. Parents will be contacted if further care is needed.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe and healthy.
