Y4, Y5 & Y6 Children - Changes for summer term

Dear Brockley Families

This term has been a terribly tricky one for our children and team, as we have tried to manage the long-term absence of a colleague. Despite our best efforts we have been unable to secure a long-term placement cover teacher, and this has led to a further review of planning and teacher deployment for the summer term.

As you can imagine with such a small teaching team, developing a plan that supports all our children and causes minimum disruption is incredibly difficult, but we think we have a solution that is fair to everyone.

For the summer term Mrs Wall, Mrs Rodgers, Mrs Leivers and Miss Dale will teach across Elephant and Lion classes, they will be supported by Miss Chapman and Mrs Greevy - this will mean that the children will almost always have a member of the Brockley teaching team, someone they know and who knows them.

From June 5th the classes will be split mainly into year groups and be taught by existing staff as follows:

Y6 children will begin the transition to Y7, this is an incredibly busy term for the children as they complete their primary education, visit new schools, prepare for the Y6 residential at Gully's and rehearse the leavers performance. Y6 PE will be on Monday.

Y5 will join together as they begin to prepare for Y6 and understand the expectations staff will have as they move to their last year at Brockley and end of KS2 SAT's. Y5 PE will be on the new day of Thursday and swimming on Friday mornings will continue as usual.

Y4 children will spend the term preparing for Y5 and being the older children in their class. Their focus will be around being role models and taking up responsibilities from the children moving on as well as making sure the Y4 curriculum is covered. Y4 PE will be on Tuesday.

We hope by putting this plan together, we can minimise any further disruption to the children and ensure there is a consistency in behaviour and learning for all KS2 children. Should you wish to discuss the matter further please don't hesitate to contact school.

Many thanks for your continuing support.
